  • Start off right! Learn from experienced expert instructors, reduce mistakes and frustration, and gain confidence for more challenging projects.
  • No rushing! Classes are two hours with no “hard stop”. If you need extra time to complete a section, we won’t shoo you out the door. This flexibility lets you finish projects in class, have time to problem solve, and practice new skills.
  • Be inspired! Get ideas and tips for independent work.
  • Don’t go it alone! Join a community of makers to share skills, ideas, and resources.

Enjoy a low-stress environment: students have their own table, sewing machine, and basic tools. You may bring your own machine if you like. Cutting and pressing stations are set up.

There are one-week and multi-week classes start with Sewing Machine Basics, then move onto skills and project classes. For class descriptions and fees see our Schedule Page.

Sandra Villeneuve (lead instructor)
Sandra has been sewing since she was 9 years old, when she was finally tall enough to reach the foot pedal. A graduate of George Brown College’s Fashion Technology & Design program, she has spent years creating everything from everyday garments to costumes and custom wedding gowns. She believes sewing should be creative, practical, and fun—not intimidating! Her focus is on building confidence and useful skills while encouraging a more sustainable approach to fashion: make it, mend it, and love it for longer.

Bev Wagar (assistant)
Bev, who began sewing at age 11, attended Ryerson Polytechnic (now Metropolitan University) in Fashion Design—but ended up with an English degree from the University of Toronto. Despite discovering a love of athletics and gardening in later life, Bev always maintained a sewing room and never let her skills get rusty. After moving to Brockville she met Sandra, who led the library’s drop-in sewing program. Jumping in to help, Bev realized how much she enjoyed teaching. Her focus on fundamental skills & techniques complements Sandra’s creative and bold approach.
